I am not

Are you holding a grudge? About?

No I am not holding a grudge, I use to hold a grudge towards my father for many years. When he left my mother I was a little boy and didn’t know anything of it so it didn’t bother me, but when I got to the age where I understood the effects of it, that’s when I realized I felt a way towards him. Yeah we would talk here and there once or twice a year, and sometimes once every few years. He had been fighting demons his whole life, he would reach out and talk about getting together and when we set dates, it never transpired so I keep it moving. I reached out to see how he’s doing and as usual, the empty promises showed up again so I said screw it. It wasn’t until I was in my late 30’s I visited him in a hospital and told him I’m no longer mad at him, I love him, I forgive him for him walking out on my mom and I and I put that grudge to rest. I said you are my father and thank you for the handful of times we did speak, hope you get better and I’ll see you later…

  1. Thank you for sharing this. It takes immense strength to let go of a grudge, especially one rooted in childhood. Forgiveness is powerful, and it sounds like you found peace and closure with your father.
